Reflections in Still Waters: Embracing Calm at the Lake

We recently spent a week in Minnesota at the Kona Kona Resort and Lake Cabins at the historic Point of Pines, on Kabekona Lake. This lake was about a three-hour drive north of Minneapolis and was absolutely worth the drive. The resort is owned and run by the most wonderful family.

I live in the foothills, but have found that I’m most at peace when I’m near water and this was no exception. Two of the owners, Anna and Jenna, greeted us when we arrived, and explained some of the rules (like don’t put food outside because they don’t want to encourage the bears). Then showed us which cabin was ours for the week and we immediately unpacked.

We stayed in Cabin 4, which had the most amazing view and was steps from the beach. It has two bedrooms, one bathroom, a family room, and a fully stocked kitchen. Because we went with a group of families from our son’s school, we had breakfast and lunch in the cabin and then shared dinners in the lodge with the other families. But, you don’t have to be in a big group to stay at the resort - anyone can rent cabins by the week.

Cozy family room in the cabin. We love the colors used in this cabin.

Speaking of the lodge - this is the only place with WiFi and television, but who needs that on vacation?! The lodge also has a big, fully stocked kitchen that anyone can use, a bunch of board games, ping pong outside, and an honor store where you can buy merchandise, candy, sodas, and itch cream (yes, we needed it for bug bites). While shopping I learned from Anna that they screen press their sweatshirts - so of course I had to get one and let me tell you, it is super comfy. I wore it on our plane ride home and was happy to have it as our flight was cold.

Kona Kona Resort Lodge

This is the lodge that anyone at the resort can use.

There is no shortage of fun to be had at the resort. You can fish, kayak, boat, hot tub (in an awesome wood-fired hot tub), and hang out on the sandbar. You can practically walk to the sandbar from the boat dock near the hot tub. There’s also a slide into the water!! But, if all you want is to relax and read a book, you can do that, too.

If you want a calm, relaxing week (even with kids!) I highly recommend Kona Kona.
